BROOKLINE HOUSING AUTHORITY
90 Longwood Avenue
BROOKLINE, MA

BWA Architecture was contracted by the Brookline Housing Authority (BHA) for completing the interior modernization of 90 Longwood Avenue, previously Morse Apartments, a fully occupied affordable senior housing high-rise building. Constructed in 1974, the steel-framed structure, with a brick masonry façade, consists of 99 one-bedroom units, and the BHA’s office headquarters.
To ensure a comprehensive understanding of the project’s requirements, BWA conducted meetings with BHA Planning and Development staff, as well as property management and operations staff. Additionally, we conducted surveys among the residents, allowing us to gain valuable insights into their issues and concerns.
BWA completed kitchen, bathroom, and HVAC system modernizations in all the units, and worked closely with BHA’s staff to reconfigure the first floor of the building in a way that would be optimal for both the staff and residents. Despite the challenges presented by a fully occupied building, BWA was able to effectively collaborate with all stakeholders and deliver a comprehensive solution that met the project’s objectives. The outcome of this project provides the residents of 90 Longwood Avenue with a greatly improved living environment that better meets their needs.
