Fairmount Corridor Commuter Rail Stations

DORCHESTER, MA

Fairmount-Corridor-Commuter-Rail-1.jpg

BWA Architecture provided station architecture for the Fairmount Corridor Improvement Project, which included full upgrades to Uphams Corner and Morton Street commuter rail stations and new design and construction at Four Corners, Newmarket, Talbot/Geneva Ave and Blue Hill Ave commuter rail stations.

BWA designed platform canopies, comfortable passenger waiting areas, accessibility features and wayfinding elements. Design consideration was given to durability and ease of maintenance for snow removal, gutter cleaning, storage of maintenance equipment and salting supplies, bird deterrence, light bulb and fixture standardization, and railing design which minimizes on-site welding and field painting.

Improvements have substantially upgraded transit service in these neighborhoods by bringing existing stations into code compliance, adding new stations that are convenient to local communities, and by making stations accessible for people with mobility challenges.
