TOWN OF WESTON

The Josiah Smith Tavern

WESTON, MA

Josiah-Smith-Tavern-1.jpg

The Josiah Smith Tavern is a historic asset to the Town of Weston that was previously underutilized for years. The town’s goal was to revitalize the Tavern and its site by leasing a large portion of the building to a farm-to-table restaurant vendor and to allow historically oriented Town organizations use of the remaining space. BWA Architecture and its team evaluated the existing building and identified preservation criteria per the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and Historic New England Quit Claim Deed requirements. After also reviewing the various applicable building regulations, we prepared construction bid documents for structural, architectural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection and electrical work. The interior wood flooring was carefully documented and removed to perform structural work and floor leveling. Individual floorboards were carefully replaced and set in their original positions.
