HARVARD REAL ESTATE

Massachusetts Hall

CAMBRIDGE, MA

Massachusetts-Hall-Exterior-min2.jpg

BWA Architecture was engaged by Harvard University and NorthStar for the renovations at Massachusetts Hall, containing the offices of the President, Provost, and much of the senior leadership of the University. The scope of work included envelope improvements, replacement of HVAC systems and installation of fire protection systems, accessibility improvements including the installation of a new elevator, and interior space reconfigurations. We carefully preserved the Hall’s Georgian architecture during the restoration by replicating the historic interior and exterior details and matching interior finishes. Because of its age and administrative prominence, Massachusetts Hall was subject to significant University and Cambridge Historical Commission oversight and constraints.

BWA led a large team of subconsultants and worked collaboratively with the University and the Cambridge Historic Commission to ensure the successful integration of the new building systems while preserving the historic features of the building.
