ACTON HOUSING AUTHORITY

Whittlesey Village

ACTON, MA

Whittlesey Village_multifamily.jpg

The Acton Housing Authority was looking to develop new affordable family housing at Whittlesey Village. Early in the design process BWA Architecture and the Owner decided to utilize modular construction to save time and cost.

Whittlesey was the second modular project that BWA designed. We divided each of the twelve townhouse units into four modules, two per floor. The modules were constructed in a factory in Maine, shipped to the site and assembled on foundations already constructed onsite, all within a period of 4½ months. BWA added large corner windows which were used to flood the interiors with natural light.

Each of the 12 townhouse units features an efficient galley kitchen and open expansive living areas for combined living and dining. Second floors feature two or three bedrooms and shared bathrooms. Whittlesey Village underwent the 40B permitting process and was funded by MHP, DHCD, MHFA.
